Creativity for Wellbeing with Jess Long
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
You will be encouraged to express yourself and to increase your sense of connection and wellbeing through art making, using paints, charcoal or pencils. You will be gently guided to connect to your inner creative processes using mindfulness and short drawing exercises to come into the moment and playfully create with a ‘beginner’s mind’, without the limitations that come when we try to create perfection.

THEME OF THE MONTH
Our theme for October is Mental Health Awareness, giving a time for all of us to acknowledge the struggles ourselves and others are facing when it comes to mental health whilst offering solutions to tackle them. Throughout the month, our workshops will follow this theme by helping you to explore intuitive methods for overcoming personal challenges and discover interesting new ways to express your emotions through creativity.
* 19th October, 6-7PM BST – Creativity for Connection
The workshop will begin with a short meditation or mindfulness exercise, to bring us into the moment and to connect with an image or symbol that is meaningful to us. We will spend a few moments meditating on this image and allowing our imaginations the space to create, to play, to dream.
We will then do some ‘free drawing’ – putting pen to paper and beginning to create simple shapes and images with whatever is coming into our minds, noticing how drawing and making simple marks and shapes on paper can be calming and restorative.
Moving on from this, we will identify repeating shapes and symbols, and start to build a new piece from these. Connecting back to the images we visualised at the beginning of the workshop, you will be guided through the creation of a piece that expresses these images in a way that is light, fun and also grounding. You will leave the workshop feeling more grounded and calm, having created some inner space and peace.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Please have some paper, pencil or biro, and potentially some coloured pencils at hand.
No previous experience required.
Jess is an Artist and Arts Facilitator who runs arts workshops for local communities and teams in office working environments. She is also currently undertaking a Masters in Psychotherapy with a focus on using the creative arts in therapy and works as Legal Counsel for an International Girls Rights NGO.
